Onimusha: Way of the Sword Linux Performance With Ray Tracing | RX 9070 XT

t has only been a few days since we looked at the Linux Performance in the demo of Onimusha: Way of the Sword. If you remember, the result was excellent. But there was a bitter aftertaste because Capcom’s RE-Engine doesn’t want to trace rays without a bit of nudging and prodding. Although I had the right idea in my tests, I simply and plainly did it wrong. We’re fixing that in this post. And we’re also comparing Bazzite, CachyOS, and Windows 11 with RT enabled in the benchmark. We already know how Windows performs from the first post, so we need to find out how both Linux distros fare.

This is a very short and focused post. So let’s not waste any time and put on a metal hat. Apparently, that’s a thing you do in this world.

Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced – Plunder Party or Hangover?

I want to start this blog post with what I believe is a somewhat controversial statement: I prefer Assassin’s Creed Shadows over Black Flag.

Now, before you pick up your pitchforks and torches and start searching for me, I’d like to kindly and slightly afraid remind you that this behavior belongs in Geralt’s world, not the seven seas.

(Awkward silence. Crickets chirping.)

So, how did I come to this conclusion, given that I didn’t exactly rave about AC Shadows? Stay a while and listen.

(Wait, also wrong universe.)

Edward’s piradventure was bombarded from several sides. Some have been plaguing the Assassin’s Creed series for a while now, including Shadows, and others that I didn’t encounter in Shadows.

My first version of this script consisted of an about one-thousand-word rant about some technical aspects of the game. And by that, I don’t mean graphics, performance, and stuff like that. That was flawless. What I’m talking about are the supporting systems like the HUD, controls, and camera, and I will complain about some of it. They were a part of my experience after all. On the other hand, everyone perceives this differently, and I wanted to focus on more important topics.

Onimusha: Way of the Sword Linux Performance Analysis – RE-Engine (almost) at its Best | RX 9070 XT

Capcom appears confident in its games and offers a generous demo of Onimusha: Way of the Sword for everyone to play. This game reminded me a lot of Nioh 3, only with a smartass as the main character. Just like Team Ninja has its own engine for the Nioh games, Capcom utilizes its in-house technology, the RE-Engine, for Onimusha, and, to spoil the ending, it runs beautifully. The RE-Engine already impressed me in Pragmata. But there’s a catch, one that already plagued Pragmata and, from what I could find, RE Requiem: Ray tracing. For some reason, this option is grayed-out in the main menu on Linux.

But first, let me welcome you to another Linux performance analysis.

Let’s dive right in and begin the dance of swords to quench our hunger for FPS with tasty humans.

Err… well… actually, I’m drawing an absolute blank when it comes to Onimusha, so it’s impossible for me to make silly references and jokes, as I normally try to do. What I just said refers to the demo, though. It has nothing to do with a diabolical taste for sacrifices.

(I swear.)
